This Steelers Player is a Surprise Breakout Candidate for 2020

With Ben Roethlisberger returning from an elbow injury, the Steelers will look to emerge towards the top of the AFC North. If Pittsburgh can do this, the offense should be full of breakout performers, including receiver Diontae Johnson.

Last season, Johnson accumulated almost 700 receiving yards on 59 catches with five touchdowns. Considering he had backups throwing him the ball the whole season, an output like that is pretty impressive.

The Toledo product had more catches, receiving yards, and touchdowns than former Pro Bowler JuJu Smith-Shuster. You bring Roethlisberger back into the mix for Johnson, and he could possibly break 1,000 yards for Pittsburgh this season.

Additionally, Johnson’s physical build is familiar to the Steelers. Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown had immense success to start their career playing in the same role as Johnson — to stretch the field for the offense — so why can’t the 23-year-old do the same thing?

With Smith-Shuster taking most of the attention from opposing secondaries, the Johnson should find himself in favorable match-ups that he can capitalize on. Combine that with the return of Big Ben, and Johnson may become a household name in 2020.
