Not much has gone right for the Atlanta Falcons this season, so naturally, they found a way to reach new levels of embarrassment in Week 7’s matchup with the Rams.
With the Falcons already trailing by 17 points in the third quarter, Matt Ryan’s pass was bobbled and picked off by the Rams.
After the play, Falcons running back Devonta Freeman got tied up with the Rams’ Aaron Donald. Now, Freeman is one of the smaller backs in the NFL at 5-foot-9, 200 pounds. Donald, on the other hand, is an enormous human being. I would not advise anyone to fight Aaron Donald.
Freeman, though, decided that it was worth a shot.
During the scuffle, Donald literally lifted Freeman off the ground (!!!), and the Falcons running back managed to get in a punch at Donald’s facemask. Obviously, nobody should punch a helmet, but these things happen in the heat of the moment.
Freeman was ejected, but he was likely already frustrated by Andrew Whitworth pulling him down by the hair.
Freeman finished the game with 19 yards on seven carries.
